Diagnosing the Disorder

Attention Deficit Disorder, or ADD/ADHD, is a psychological term currently applied to anyone who meets the DSM IV diagnostic criteria for impulsivity, hyperactivity and/or inattention.( http://borntoexplore.org/whatisadd.htm) I have heard of kids being diagnosed as early as 3 years of age, but I wanted to know what age children were typically diagnosed with the disorder. I found in a report released in the March issue of Archives of Pediatrics and Adolescent Medicine that approximately 7.5% of school-aged children in the world have been diagnosed with ADD. (http://www.additudemag.com/adhd/article/688.html) I have always wondered what age ADD can actually be diagnosed because young children are typically energetic and show the symptoms of ADD, but it’s not ADD it’s just how kids are at that age. Also, what the effects, positive and negative, include when taking ADD medications are and what are the different types of medication.

Closet Clothes

Our blog topic for this week is "How do the clothes in your closet make an argument for who you are?" which made me really try to look at my clothes from a new perspective. I have clothes for a variety of different occasions. The clothes in my closet show who I am in different ways. For parties and formal events I have button downs and collared shirts so I can look nice and presentable. Sometimes I like to just chill and I’ll throw on some gym shorts and a random t-shirt. Other times, for just hanging out or going to classes, I’ll just wear khakis and a t-shirt, which is usually a shirt I’ve obtained over the years by doing certain events so they show a little bit about me because people see it and either ask about it or have heard about it. I have a number of shoes such as, Sperry’s (looks nice), New Balance (most comfortable), sandals (free), cleats (for outdoor sports), and Samba (for indoor soccer and running).

Our Generation

The picture containing musical geniuses Lil Wayne and Lady Gaga could very well define this generation. Since music began, it has evolved into many different genres, from classic rock in the 1970s to what it is today; hip-hop and pop. Technology has helped to renovate the music industry and now the music industry is one of the most prominent industries in the American society today. This generation's Americans look up to and try to emulate famous musicians such as, Lil Wayne and Lady Gage because of their free flowing music and symbolic lyrics.
